Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, Chupicuaro Culture, ca. 300-100 BCE. The two vessels in this lot display the elegant form and boldly painted decoration of Chupicuaro artisan. Both are quite large in scale and complement one another with their forms and color schemes. On the left, we have a piece inspired by the phytomorphic forms of the Guanajuato River Valley and brilliantly finished in signature Chupicuaro red. On the right, a cream-hued olla with miniature handles and a rim highlighted in Chupicuaro red. 6"T x 7 1/4"D (olla) 5 1/2"T x 5 1/4" across (lobed vessel)
