Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 300 to 100 BCE; Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A couple of wonderful redware terracotta vessels from two distinct Pre-Columbian cultures. First is a small Chupicuaro bowl with a rounded base, indented walls, a shallow interior cavity, and a flared rim; the walls are detailed in pale-yellow zigzag and dotted lines. Second is a large Jalisco pottery bowl with a flat base, a wide body, a squat neck, and a flared and four-tipped rim. The bowl displays very faint evidence of vertical and circular motifs, though much has faded over time. A beautiful duo of Pre-Columbian redware vessels! Size (Chupicuaro): 1.5" H (3.8 cm); size (Jalisco): 4.75" H (12.1 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
