Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi Province, Bahia culture, ca. 250 BCE to 600 CE (the smaller) and Ecuador, La Tolita (sometimes Tumaco) culture, ca. 350 BCE to 350 CE (the larger). A fantastic comparative pair of pottery heads from two different ceramic traditions in ancient Ecuador. Both wear dramatic jewelry and large headdresses, but beyond that the similarities stop, and the different sculptural traditions rise to the front. Size of largest: 2.45" W x 2.7" H (6.2 cm x 6.9 cm); 4.45" H (11.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.

#143099

  • Condition: Both are fragments as shown from larger statues. The Bahia one appears to be missing one earring and something from the front of the headdress. The Tolita one is also missing part of one earring. Still, overall very nice with intriguing details.
