Description:

Native American, Southern United States, Mississippian / Caddo culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE (1000 to 500 BP). A great collection of 11 hand-knapped projectile points made from chert and quartz stones. The largest is a semi-translucent quartz, the rest are chert in hues of white, tan, and beige. Seven of the arrowheads appear to be Harrell types, with a distinctive three-pointed shape with double notches creating two shoulders and a small notch cut into the center of the base. The three largest may be a either a Washita or Haskell form, and have a slightly curved or straight base without a center notch. The petite size of each is quite impressive. It would have taken immense patience and a gentle hand to knap the ears and blades without shattering the stone. Size of case: 6.125" L x .8" W x 5.125" H (15.6 cm x 2 cm x 13 cm); largest point: 1.5" L x .675" W (3.8 cm x 1.7 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
