Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. An enticing set of eleven mold-formed pottery tiles that are enveloped on the topside with lustrous glaze in hues of yellow, green, and turquoise. The openwork tiles each display sprawling vines projecting from beneath the serrated petals of a large lower flower. Large, mass-produced tiles like this example were perhaps used to decorate garden pathways or atrium spaces within indoor settings as the verdant coloration would usher in feelings of inner peace, calmness, and an appreciation for one's natural surroundings. Lucite display stands for photography purposes only. Size of each (all are relatively similar): 7.75" L x 7.875" W (19.7 cm x 20 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired between the 1980s and 2000s
