Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

Rome, Roman to Byzantine Empire, ca. 1st to 6th century CE. A lovely ensemble of ten mold-made terracotta oil lamps from the Roman and Byzantine empires. Two Roman lamps have disc-shaped bodies, stable bases, and small wick spouts; one has a linear motif around the shoulders, and the other has a depiction of a Gorgon, perhaps Medusa, in the recessed tondo. The remaining eight lamps are from various stages of early Byzantium; one is gray with a large raised neck channel with dot and diamond low relief motifs; three have large fill holes and flat handles; and four have tab-shaped handles. A wonderful collection for any aficionado of Roman or Byzantine artifacts! Size of largest: 4" L (10.2 cm).
