Description:

Latin America, Mexico, Taxco, Los Castillo, ca. 1939 to 1962 CE. A lovely handwrought copper pitcher adorned with a sweet bird perched at the juncture between the curved handle and the rim. The bird's wings and body as well as the handle are colored with inset stone of green and blue hues, possibly malachite and lapis. One of the bird's eyes is inlaid with a black stone or glass bead. Stamped "PLATEADO", "HECHO IN MEXICO", and "LOS CASTILLO TAXCO" on the base. Although this piece is stamped "PLATEADO" meaning plated, an X-ray flourescence (XRF) test indicated that while the base is comprised of more than 50% silver, the body is 98% copper. Size: 5.75" W (handle to opposite end) x 8" H (14.6 cm x 20.3 cm)
