Ancient Central Asia, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A lengthy cast-bronze sword blade with an elongated petaloid body, a thick trifurcated midrib coursing down the center of each side, sharpened edges tracing down to a rounded tip, and a short, stocky tang on the back. The weapon is covered in thick layers of green, brown, and azurite patina, though some abraded areas reveal the original golden-brown bronze color beneath. Size: 19" L x 2.75" W (48.3 cm x 7 cm).

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

  • Condition: Slight bending to overall form, wear and smoothing to tip, minor nicks to tang and blade edges, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits as well as great patina throughout. Scattered areas of original golden-brown bronze color revealed.
