Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century to 2nd century CE. A realistically rendered, hollow cast sculptural depiction of a right hand, adorned with red on white pigment. At first glance this would appear to be a fragment; however, to our eyes it appears to be finished. So it may have been a votive for a cult statue of a god or goddess depicting a right hand, an offering within its grasp. Another possibility is that it was created to fit a larger figural sculpture. Size: 8.75" L x 3.5" W (22.2 cm x 8.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
