Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central/Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Sultepec culture, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A sizable mask of convex form that is hand-carved from opaque white stone, perhaps calcite. The convex visage features string-cut eyes, nasolabial folds, and mouth, while the prominent nose projects outwards from the face. Four pairs of drilled suspension holes are situated along the peripheries and verso to enable the mask to be attached to the face of a deceased individual. Size: 9" L x 4.25" W x 7.4" H (22.9 cm x 10.8 cm x 18.8 cm)
