Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Khmer, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A high relief fragment depicting the head of a Buddha carved with a characteristic Bayon style tiered ushnisha and rashmi. The visage is almost childlike with finely incised downcast eyes, full lips and nose, elongated ears, and an overall serene expression. The mounting hole perforating the bottom of the head is copper lined. Includes a stainless steel and lucite museum base. Size: head itself measures 8-1/4" x 5" x 4" (21 x 12.7 x 10.2 cm); 11" (28 cm) with base
