Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ixlan Del Rio ca. 200 BCE to 300 CE. This is a large seated pottery figure playing a rasp. The figure wears a wide banded headdress and has a crescent form nose ring and ear ornaments. He is decorated with a red-brown pigment and some black pigment. This figure would have been placed in a shaft tomb dug out beneath a household as part of the West Mexican shaft tomb culture. Size: 10" H x 6-1/4" W (25.4 cm x 15.9 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Private New York Collection, ex-Florida collection.
