Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-bronze axe head with a prominent, crescent-shaped blade projecting from the front and an S-shaped blade draping from the back. The trapezoidal socketing shaft tapers towards the top and still retains its original attachment pin within. Mottled green and brown patina have formed across the surfaces to give this a colorful presentation. Size: 7.375" L x 5" H (18.7 cm x 12.7 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany
