Description:

Southeast Asia, Philippines, Moro people (also Bangsamoro), ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A striking example of a kris of the Moro style, featuring a wavy steel blade with engraved abstract motifs and a wood hilt wrapped in strands of vegetal fiber. The caramel-hued hilt expands to a gently curved, octagonal pommel, while the blade features a nickel silver stirrup and a decorated guard with an intricate, geometric profile. Fierce weapons like this one were used by the Moro people in the Philippine-American War to fight American soldiers; they were also used to fight the Japanese during World War II. Size: 28.8" L x 4.3" W (73.2 cm x 10.9 cm); 29.9" H (75.9 cm) on included custom stand; (blade only): 23.3" L (59.2 cm)
