Description:

Ancient Near East, late Sassanian to early Islamic period, ca. 7th to 9th century CE. A fine, free-blown jar composed of semi-translucent yellow glass covered in a uniform layer of earthen material. The vessel has a concave base with a rough pontil scar, a spherical body with a rounded shoulder, a squat neck, and a flared rim with an in-folded lip. The upper shoulder is decorated with an applied band of lightly-pinched glass, and beneath are four applied abstract panels which emulate an oblong, six-pointed star. Size: 2.625" W x 3.125" H (6.7 cm x 7.9 cm).
