Description:

Late Roman / Early Islamic, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. Truly breathtaking - a cast and blown mosaic vessel comprised of canes of semi-transparent golden amber and opaque white glass with marvelous purple, silvery, and rainbow iridescence. The vessel presents an elegant form - its reverse piriform body with four flattened faces and rounded shoulders rising to a gently flaring neck with an incurved rim. Note how the mosaic canes were artfully marvered in a feathered pattern on the body so as to appear to be core-formed, with diagonal strokes across extending throughout the neck. While the glass body is of amber hues, incredible violet purple, glistening silver, and rainbow iridescence have transformed the color making for a beautiful result. A stunning work of glass art to be treasured for its impeccable form, striking hues, and sophisticated technique. Size: 4" H (10.2 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
