Late Roman or Byzantine Empire, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. A ceramic mold-made oil lamp with a laurel pattern around the central discus adorned with a fabulous prancing horse, a flat, pinched handle, and twin fill-holes. The horse modeled on the discus is wearing a bridle and has its legs kicked out in front and back, with tail streaming out behind it, a joyous representation of the animal in motion. Size: 5.5" L x 3.5" W x 2.3" H (14 cm x 8.9 cm x 5.8 cm)
