Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, late Maya/Toltec, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. Two hand-built and highly burnished pottery jars of globular forms, each with flat bases and slightly cylindrical necks. Darker example decorated with three concentric circles on shoulder. These vessels were once thought to have been glazed with lead (hence the name plumbate), but no lead is found in this lustrous surface. Size for larger: 6" W x 6.25" H (15.2 cm x 15.9 cm)
