Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya/Toltec, Postclassic period, ca. 1000 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery vase with a flat base, a cylindrical body that tapers near the top, and a flared rim. The carved body displays raised linear bands, bifurcated bulbs adorning the neck, and six trios of additional bulbs on the body. Plumbate pottery, created during the Postclassic period, is a highly distinctive style of glazed pottery that spread throughout Mesoamerica and Central America and has fascinated archaeologists and explorers alike. This example displays hues of russet, mandarin, coffee, and other earth tones due to the specific mineral contents within the clay. Size: 3.75" W x 7.2" H (9.5 cm x 18.3 cm).
