Description:

Ancient East Asia, Japan, Late Jomon Period, ca. 2000 to 1000 BCE. A splendid pottery jar presenting a globular body with a rounded shoulder, a corseted neck, and an impressively thin, flared rim. The fascinating vessel is supported by a concave base with 4 gently protruding feet. A hue of sienna envelops the surface, while a horizontal band of low relief scrolling motifs adorns the neck. The petite scale of this jar and its minimalist silhouette are emblematic of late Jomon earthenware trends, which show a declining taste for sculptural embellishment and complex decoration in favor of greater integration of ornamentation and form. Size: 5.5" Diameter x 6.8" H (14 cm x 17.3 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
