Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater depicted in the form of a standing pig. The creature has a stocky body supported by a quartet of thick legs, a nubbin tail, folded ovoid ears, and a tapering conical head with a squat snout. An S-shaped grating tool with a serrated triangular head is secured within the 'mouth' of the animal. Fine coffee-hued patina has developed across most surfaces. Size: 17" L x 5.5" W x 6.75" H (43.2 cm x 14 cm x 17.1 cm).
