Description:

South America, Bolivia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine silver dagger with a sinuous 'blade' and a meticulously detailed hilt comprised of a grip and pommel boasting a spiraled design - the pommel with a miniature serpentine attachment for securing knuckle guard - and a guard knuckle guard adorned with intricate floral and foliated motifs. The blade was created for symbolic rather than actual use, as its edges are smooth rather than sharp. An exceptional silver Spanish Colonial style dagger, hand made by the Andean silversmiths in Bolivia from high content .925 silver (7.75 oz, 225 g), using the same techniques used since the Colonial era by the Andean silversmiths, meticulously hand hammered, expertly molded in repousse, and chased throughout. Descendants of the Inca culture, the Aymara speaking artists have devoted themselves to preserving this thousand year old tradition. Custom stand. Size: 11.5" L x 4.75" W (29.2 cm x 12.1 cm); 12.75" H (32.4 cm) on stand.
