Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of a recumbent rabbit with stocky legs tucked beneath its bulbous body. The charming creature features a tab-shaped tail protruding from the posterior, a raised head with a pair of shell eyes, and enormous ears draped across the back. The mouth of the rabbit is surrounded by a thick iron ring and protruding from its mouth is an iron grating tool with a serrated head. Size: 17.125" L x 5.75" W x 9.5" H (43.5 cm x 14.6 cm x 24.1 cm)
