Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Haida peoples, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely spoon, hand-carved from finely-grained cedar, with a wide scoop and a slender handle. The handle displays an abstract standing anthropomorphic figure holding a small offering, and atop the head sits an abstract avian creature with an aquiline beak and tab-shaped ears. Layers of black, red, and turquoise-hued pigment accentuate both figures, and the inside of the scoop exhibits thick traces of red paint. Fine patina enrobes this utilitarian example of Haida artistry! Size: 1.875" W x 10.1" H (4.8 cm x 25.7 cm); 11.5" H (29.2 cm) on included custom stand.
