Native American, United States, Pacific Northwest coast, Columbia Plateau area, Nez Perce, ca. late 19th century CE. A flat corn husk bag woven with thick fibers into a rectangular vessel with a pair of straps on the top. One side of the bag features a series of pink-hued triangles and diamonds outlined in red while the reverse exhibits elaborate diamond motifs in hues of orange, beige, crimson, and turquoise. Woven cornhusk bags like these were sought after trade items in the Plateau trade network. As time went on, these bags became more ornate and elaborate in their decorations.
