Central Asia, Nepal, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure depicted in a standing position atop an integral ovoid base. The figure has delineated legs and has its arms tucked tightly against its chest in a praying pose. The ovoid head is presented with faded features like a slender nose, thin lips, and recessed eyes. Guardian figures like this are typically found in or around dwellings in Nepal to ward against disease, evil spirits, or other malevolent forces. Size: 3.5" W x 19.25" H (8.9 cm x 48.9 cm); 19.9" H (50.5 cm) on included custom stand.
