Description:

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure depicting the head and upper body of a guardian figure sprouting from an integral circular base. The figure has its arms drawn in close to its abdomen, and plateaued shoulders flank either side of a thick neck. The globular head displays recessed eyes, a triangular nose, a slender mouth, and angular cheeks, all beneath an incised cap. Guardian figures like this are typically found in or around dwellings in Nepal to ward against disease, evil spirits, or other malevolent forces. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 4" W x 14" H (10.2 cm x 35.6 cm); 14.8" H (37.6 cm) on included custom stand.
