Central Asia, Nepal, ca. late 18th to first half of the 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden relief depicting Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, standing atop an integral rectangular plinth. Narasimha holds religious implements in both raised back arms and pins down a human victim with both frontal arms. He wears a segmented necklace around his neck and a flaming crown atop his head, and his expressive visage features bulging eyes, a broad nose, and a large jewel centered on his forehead. Smooth patina covers the entire carving in lustrous brown hues. Size: 6.2" W x 10.375" H (15.7 cm x 26.4 cm)
