Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A fabulous and wearable ring comprised of four braided strands of high-grade (94%) silver. The elegant circular design tapers to the fused ends which form a tight spiral disc along the bottom, and the excess from each terminal coils around the lower tips. Viking men and women wore silver accessories like this example as signs of visual wealth. They were often used as currency or deposited in rivers as offerings to the gods, though they were also buried with their owners upon death. Size: 1.3" in diameter x 1.2" H (3.3 cm x 3 cm); quality of silver: 94%; total weight: 16.1 grams; US ring size 10.
