Pre-Columbian, southern Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. Large and wonderfully decorated pottery kero. Large central band with two mythical killer whale deities that combines elements of the whale along with human elements and holds a mace in his lower flippers. Below and above the central band are registers of repeating human trophy heads shown laying down. A vibrant and wonderful example! Size: 5" W x 7.5" H (12.7 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: Gifted by Peruvian president Manuel A. Odría Amoretti to Fred L. Hartley, who later became president of Union Oil in the 1960's, thence by descent
