Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. Large bronze Buddha in a pose known as a "Walking Buddha." Buddha is shown stepping forward, his right hand would have been in abhaya mudra, wearing a diaphanous sanghati falling in undulating folds over his left shoulder, his face in a graceful serene expression with downcast eyes and arched brows flanked by long pendulous ears, his hair arranged in spiraling curls rising to a domed ushnisha and surmounted by a flame cintamani. Size: 6.3" L x 12.7" W x 26.1" H (16 cm x 32.3 cm x 66.3 cm); 29.6" H (75.2 cm) on included custom stand.

This item has been extensively tested using XRF technology. Results show metal is a classic bronze composition of copper, tin, lead and iron with less than 2% zinc in any area tested. These results are in line with Thai bronzes of the period and are inconsistent with modern bronzes form the 19th or 20th century. Additionally, the bronze has become brittle with age, also consistent with early bronzes of the period.
