Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A beautiful earthenware vessel with a carinated, elongated body that rests on a ring foot with a concave base. The body below the shoulder contains a textured surface, formed from densely abraded patterning. Adding to this impressive form is the program of finely incised, sinuous lines meandering across the shoulder and neck of the upper part of the vessel. The coiling forms resemble serpents and contain repeating scale patterns etched into their bodies. The tall neck is smooth without patterning and leads into the deep interior. A mesmerizing example from the ancients of Southeast Asia! Size: Size: 10" W x 15.5" H (25.4 cm x 39.4 cm)
