Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A beautiful stone axe head made from a deep green serpentine. This axe is a ceremonial object, with a thick handle and perforated with a hand drilled suspension hole near the tip. The crescent shaped blade is slightly sharpened along the cutting edge and tapers to pointed tips or wings. The stone is a gorgeous hue with mottled green and black hues. Size: 5.5" L x 7.125" W (14 cm x 18.1 cm)

Provenance: private J. Hart Collection, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired mid 1970s
