Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A tall, stemmed bowl standing on a round, hollow foot. The vessel's rim curves sharply inward, forming a lip around its shallow bowl; the interior is painted a deep, rich red, while the exterior has a black-outlined motif of steps and squares that recall pyramids. The conical base has a similar stepped motif around it, and its sides are punctuated by repeated perforations. Imagine it with a small fire lit underneath, light flickering through the perforations. Size: 10.3" W x 7.25" H (26.2 cm x 18.4 cm)
