Description:

East Asia, China, Neolithic to Warring States, ca. 2000 to 500 BCE. This exquisite nephrite jade ear spool features a unique square-round overall shape with elegantly concave walls and two piercings. The jade showcases stunning seafoam green hues, interspersed with areas of vibrant apple green and translucent patches that catch and diffuse light beautifully. The combination of form and material highlights the exceptional artistry and deep cultural significance of jade in ancient China. Ear spools of this kind are rare in Chinese jade, more commonly associated with Mesoamerican cultures such as the Maya. However, this piece exemplifies the early Chinese mastery of jade carving, likely serving as a symbol of high status or spiritual significance. Size: 3.0625" W x 2" H (7.8 cm x 5.1 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
