Description:

Northern Africa, Morocco, early Cretaceous, ca. 112 to 97 million years ago. A fantastic Spinosaurus (Spinosaurus aegyptiacus) tooth that has been given a modern silver tip, silver ring around its center, and silver cap with large loop for suspension as shown. The Spinosaurus ("spine lizard") was a theropod, first documented in Egypt in 1912, that is among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs - it may have been larger than Tyrannosaurus and Gigantosaurus (those unfortunate enough to have seen Jurassic Park 3 should remember the fight between a Spinosaurus who ate a Nokia phone and a Tyrannosaurus - not in any way scientifically accurate, but memorable!). Research from 2014 indicates that they could reach lengths greater than 15 m (49 ft). Size: 5.375" L x 1.125" W (13.7 cm x 2.9 cm)

Provenance: estate of the late Paul Wilkensen, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Wilkenson worked for National Geographic and taught at Syracuse University
