Mexico, early to mid 20th century CE. Very fine and large carved wooden Cristo figure. Painted on gesso in multiple bright shades with Christ nailed to the cross (the cross itself a representation of human bone, muscles and flesh), "INRI" above, a skull, serpent, apple and two flaming hearts at the base. One of the more striking examples of the type that we have seen! Size: 15.75" W x 33.5" H (40 cm x 85.1 cm)
