Description:

Europe, Roman Republic/Empire; Iberia (Spain and Portugal), Romano-Iberian, ca. 200 to 0 BCE. A long, narrow iron spear with a low ridge, a pointed tip, and a short, cylindrical socket. The Iberians, sometimes known as the Celtiberians, fought variously against, alongside, and in the service of the Romans as they carried out their conquest of Hispania. Iberian soldiers could be armed with a sword, either straight or curved, a javelin, a fully iron spear (including handle), and a spear like this one, with a wooden handle. The Suda, a Byzantine Greek historical encyclopedia of the ancient Mediterranean world, written in the 10th century CE, describes how the Romans were inspired by the superior weapons of the Iberians (people who lived in modern-day Spain) and modified their own weapons accordingly. Comes with custom stand. Size: 16.7" L x 1.75" W (42.4 cm x 4.4 cm); height on stand: 17.5" (44.5 cm)
