Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful hair pin of slender form created from 95.2% to 95.5% silver. The top end bears a petite beehive-shaped finial whilst the opposite end features a miniscule sphere of silver. Silver hair pins like this were used by high-class Roman women to showcase their personal assets and wealth. Size: 7.75" L x 0.2" W (19.7 cm x 0.5 cm); silver quality: 95.2% to 95.5%; weight: 7.8 grams.

Provenance: private Rockville, Maryland, USA collection, acquired before 2000 via descent; ex-Craig Rath collection, acquired from the 1980s - early 1990s
