Description:

Roman, North Africa, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A wheel-thrown redware pottery dish of ample size and attractiveness. The flat-bottomed vessel features a broad, shallow basin surrounded by sloped walls, and a flared rim, with a slight groove surrounding the foot, and a wheel-cut striation outlining the center of the basin. This style of pottery is known as African Terra Sigillata, referring to the method used to seal the red slip onto the pottery during the kilning process. These objects were traded far and wide throughout the Roman Empire and were Roman North Africa's leading export from the 3rd to 4th century CE. Size: 14.625" W x 1.875" H (37.1 cm x 4.8 cm)
