Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. This piece makes quite an impression, not only for its large scale but also for its stunning decorative program of black stylized geometric motifs on a burnished saturated red slipped ground - the central band featuring pairs of spirals alternating with pairs of triangles that meet inverted triangles bordered by four striated bands above and below and finally completed by triangular termini above and below - all on three pointed feet. A stunning example from the Chupicuaro. Size: 10.5" in diameter x 5.625" H (26.7 cm x 14.3 cm)

Provenance: Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, acquired prior to 1970
