Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Southeast Arizona, and Northern Chihuahua region of Mexico, Mogollon culture, ca. 1050 to 1250 CE. A sizable example of a coil-and-scrape pottery jar of the Reverse Indented Corrugated type with a slightly rounded but stable base, a broad body with a carinated midsection, a tapered upper body, and a thick, flared rim surrounding the wide mouth. The construction of this brownware pottery vessel required immense skill as each coil of pottery was carefully indented with the potter's finger at remarkably regular, tight intervals - a step that contributed to the integrity of the form as well. The artists responsible for creating pottery vessels like this one were usually women. Many Mogollon women have been found in burials accompanied by pottery making tools, and vessels similar to this one have been found in the Starkweather Ruin in New Mexico.

- Condition: Professionally repaired and restored with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines on exterior; break lines are still visible within basin interior. Minor nicks, encrustations, and abrasions to some exterior surfaces, with minor softening to some corrugations. Nice form and grand presence.
