Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A large and wonderful example a fossilized tooth from the prehistoric megalodon shark! This tooth has developed a lovely gray and beige enamel that is naturally reflective from the fossilization process! The root and bourlette are a matte black that contrasts nicely with the rest of the tooth. The various colors in megalodon teeth develop from the minerals present in the water and sediment as the teeth age. Megalodons were among the largest predators that the oceans ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that remain since their bodies were cartilage and could not fossilize. Size: 5.05" L x 3.24" W (12.8 cm x 8.2 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
