Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 2.6 million years ago. A beautiful, fossilized tooth from a megalodon shark with a highly polished obverse face and matte root. The enamel layer is a pale hue of cream along the periphery and mottled shades of espresso and caramel on the interior and exhibits a naturally lustrous surface on the verso of the tooth. The obverse has been heavily polished to silky and glassy surface, revealing the inner layers of the black matrix underneath. The broad bourlette features dozens of fine vertical striations, and the bulky root bears stable fissures and bore holes from clams across its matte brown surface, while tactile serrations line the peripheries of the enamel. Megalodons were one of the apex predators of the prehistoric oceans, but their teeth are the only parts that fossilized since these monstrous fish were mostly cartilage! Size: 5.82" L x 3.79" W (14.8 cm x 9.6 cm); 6.625" H (16.8 cm) on included custom stand.
