Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Conte, ca. 600 to 800 CE. This olla has beautiful and clear swirling geometric and zoomorphic designs in cream, blue, red and black on the body of the jar, and banding in those colors around the neck and lip. The Conte period represents an explosion of artistic creativity in Panamanian ceramics and this piece has all the hallmarks of that creativity, including the strong use of the blue color. Size: 8"L x 8"W x 11-3/4"H. Provenance: Ex-Private Rousseau collection acquired in 1984. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108841

  • Condition: The olla is intact, with a minor (less than 0.5") chip from the lip and no other signs of cracking or repairing. Although there is wear on the design pattern, the colors are still very clear, even the blue, which often fades first on pieces like this.
