Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built pottery female figure of sizable form who dons a striped loincloth and a slender necklace with a crescent-shaped medallion. Her stable seated form is aided by her conical thighs that extend out in front of her upright body, and both arms are held neatly beneath exposed breasts. The oversized head bears a stylized countenance of puffy eyes, a prominent nose with flared nostrils, vertical tattooing stripes on the cheeks and upper lip, and several earrings adorning each fan-shaped ear. Accents of black and white pigment also create the layered necklace beads around her neck. Size: 8.75" L x 9.875" W x 17.625" H (22.2 cm x 25.1 cm x 44.8 cm)
