Description:

North Africa, Morocco, Anti-Atlas Mountains, Ktaoua Formation, Ordovician period, ca. 478.6 to 443.7 million years ago. An unusually large fossil of the spiny Selenopeltis sp. trilobite with fantastic coloration that contrasts with the light gray stone. This fossil is exceptional for the large size - most Selenopeltis average 4.5 to 6.3 inches (11.5 to 16.0 cm), and this also has no restoration - the spines are present and intact. The long, graceful spines radiate out from the cephalon (head) all the way down the sides of the trilobite to the pygidium (tail). Its broad, fully inflated thorax is full of natural detail and high dimensional relief of each segment. Size of matrix: 13.25" L x 13" W (33.7 cm x 33 cm); trilobite: 7" L (17.8 cm)
