Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Trujillo, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 400 to 500 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery jaguar of immense size and form with hollow legs, a curled tail, a massive spout, and a raised head. The attentive feline peers forward with almond-shaped eyes and features a powerful snout, thick jowls, tab-shaped ears, and a mouth full of fangs. Dark stripes adorn the russet-hued body while cream pigment creates some lighter areas. Size: 12.25" L x 6.75" W x 13" H (31.1 cm x 17.1 cm x 33 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired with restoration in several areas, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor pitting and abrasions, with fading to some areas of original pigment, and chipping along inside periphery of both ears. Nice preservation to feline features on face. Previous inventory label beneath 1 foot.
