Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Post-Classic, ca. 900 to 1521 CE. A bichrome red on cream ground bowl painted with four spiral motifs alternating with four step motifs on the interior, and four larger spiral motifs on the exterior, the registers bordered with red double lines on the interior and single lines on the exterior. This numerology is fairly symbolic, the number four suggesting the concept of cardinal points and/or the four corners of the earth. Size: 9.25" W x 2.625" H (23.5 cm x 6.7 cm)
