Description:

Central / Northwestern Europe, England, Anglo-Saxon / Viking culture, Medieval to Post-Medieval period, ca. 8th to 16th century CE. A large iron farming tool with a thick conical tip and a pair of robust flange panels with remnants of bolt attachments on one end. The iron flanges were likely bolted to a wooden pole or handle. This tool was probably used for plowing or digging. Size: 23.25" L x 7" W (59.1 cm x 17.8 cm).

Provenance: private Owen collection, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA, acquired in the 1990s from a US-based dealer
